d10 Memorable Desert Locations

You are not alone. Many dms draw blanks when setting scenes for random and improvisational encounters.

Instead of trying the same old thing, use this list to create memorable desert locations in your game. Watch your table come alive as the player lean forth, engaged.

  1. A marooned boat lies embedded in the desert sand. The hull is cracked but otherwise in decent condition.

  2. Three broken pillars stand erect before a wasted limestone temple. Worn from time, the stone displays faded murals depicting divine works of gods.

  3. An enormous carving of a warrior decorates the face of a desert cliff. The champion. adorned in regal armor thrusts a falchion to the sky.

  4. Shattered remains of clay urns scatter the area next to the husk of a burnt tent. The smell of charred flesh permeates the air.

  5. A healthy path of greenery nestles against a weathered limestone crag. In the center, a velvety aquamarine pool ripples from a solitary camel's slurps.

  6. A cracked ivory skull protrudes from the sand. There is no sign of the rest of the skeleton.

  7. A grove of flowering cacti stretch across the valley. The blossoms present an inviting scent of cinnamon and ale.

  8. The huddled body of a human lies off the path ahead. Other than it's waving hair, the figure remains motionless.

  9. The sun bleached skeleton of a beast lies between two desert shrubs. The horns on the picked clean skull identify the creature as a long horned bull.

  10. The scorched frame of a ruined wagon sprawls across the sand drift. Most of the lumber lies charred and useless but a few planks are still salvageable
